A new academy in the classical tradition
Foundational Knowledge Academy was founded in 2026 by Mr. Kenn Lau, with the conviction that lasting education begins with a deep, ordered knowledge of the world.
Our philosophy
FKA was established to help students truly master English by delivering a content-rich curriculum in an engaging and lively manner — one that facilitates factual retention, in the spirit of the Core Knowledge curriculum developed by Professor E.D. Hirsch.
We believe that genuine fluency in any language is inseparable from genuine knowledge of the world. Our pupils read widely across literature, history, geography and science, building the cultural literacy that distinguishes a thoughtful reader and writer.

Mr. Mark Lau Wai Ming
Advisory Board Member
Mr. Mark Lau Wai Ming (no relation to the founder) brings over thirty years of visionary leadership and heartfelt dedication to this newly founded institution. A retired principal who successfully helmed four premier primary schools, Mr. Lau is immensely popular with students, famously balancing high standards with a joyful, supportive environment.
Securing his deep pedagogical expertise is a tremendous privilege for our school. His decades of experience offer invaluable strategic counsel as we establish our foundational roots.
Beyond his professional accolades, Mr. Lau is a dedicated practitioner of Wing Chun and Karate. He views martial arts as a lifelong pursuit of character cultivation, bringing this same philosophy of moral integrity, resilience and holistic development to his vital role as our advisor.
He is currently also an advisor in the School Partnership and Field Experience Office of The Education University of Hong Kong.
