Foundational Knowledge Academy

Classical Education
for the Next Generation

A Hong Kong tutoring academy for students aged 8 to 15, rooted in the timeless pursuit of foundational knowledge.

Our ethos

Excelling through traditional learning principles

Founded in 2026 by Mr. Kenn Lau, FKA delivers a content-rich English curriculum in the spirit of E.D. Hirsch's Core Knowledge tradition — facts, history, literature and language, mastered through structured, sustained study.

I.

A Classical Curriculum

A carefully sequenced body of knowledge — literature, history, geography and grammar — taught in English.

II.

Small, Considered Classes

Lessons capped to preserve attention and dialogue between teacher and pupil.

III.

The Drawing Room

An intellectual sanctuary, in the British country-house tradition, for self-study and quiet reflection.

A word from the founder

"With degrees in education and administration, and an upbringing across international schools in Hong Kong and British boarding schools, I am well-positioned to instil in my students a genuinely global perspective — and a love of knowing things well."

What is Core Knowledge?

Content, not merely skill

Designed by Professor E.D. Hirsch of the University of Virginia, the Core Knowledge curriculum is content-focused rather than skill-focused. True comprehension flows from a structured body of background knowledge — not from isolated reading techniques.

The Drawing Room

The Drawing Room

An intellectual sanctuary for our students

Small group learning

Seven pupils, never more

Each group is capped at seven students. A true seminar happens only where dialogue is possible — every voice is heard, every pupil is known to the teacher.

Testimonials

In the words of our families

Mr. Lau brings a rare seriousness to teaching. Our daughter has learned to read closely, write with care, and — most surprising of all — enjoy doing so.

Mrs. C. Wong

Parent · Kowloon Tong

The Drawing Room is a genuine sanctuary. My son asks to arrive early simply to read there before his lesson begins.

Dr. A. Patel

Parent · Mid-Levels

A refreshingly traditional academy in a city that often forgets the value of slow, sustained study.
